RIAAN CRUYWAGEN is a household name in South Africa through his newsreading on SABC 2. He has been working at the SABC since the early days of television in South Africa in 1976, but he is more than just a newsreader: he has always worked to the highest professional standards and with unerring accuracy in broadcasting, and that is what makes him a broadcasting legend. In accepting only the highest standards from himself, he shines like a beacon of light in a sea of increasing broadcasting mediocrity in this country. It is a particular privilege to know Riaan not just as a fellow broadcaster and role model in the art of broadcasting, but also as a true friend.
Colin Yorke, retired senior broadcaster of SAfm
Riaan Cruywagen is a household name in South Africa. Having worked with him, his name resonates with a man of great depth and substance. A professional with integrity.
His sense of humour is a hallmark of his being. But if you had to ask me to describe him in a phrase it would be to say he is “one of life’s true gentlemen”. A rare thing indeed.
George Mazarakis, Executive Producer: Carte Blanche
“I used to dread seeing Riaans face on TV as a child, because that always meant bedtime, when i finally met him he was exactly how I hoped he would be. Iconic, credible and down to earth. His life story is a must read for every South African.”
